Of the three main sources of GHG emissions (power, transport, heating), power generation accounts for the largest share – or about 40% – of carbon dioxide gas emissions globally. In California, more than 25% of GHG emissions come from power due to the state’s energy mix containing a large percentage of hydro and natural-gas generation rather than other states’ predominant reliance on conventional coal-fired power.
