Hydrogen Energy

How confident is Hydrogen Energy in the current carbon capture technology?

We are very confident in today’s technology for capturing and permanently storing carbon dioxide in well-documented geological structures.

Hydrogen Energy, through BP, has been actively engaged in CO2 capture and storage technology development for more than five years. BP has been involved in many CO2 storage initiatives. For instance, BP is a founding member of the CO2 Capture Project, an international collaboration of companies and governments focused on developing technology.

Operationally, BP is currently capturing and storing 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year at its In Salah field in Algeria.

More generally, CO2 has been used in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) projects around the world, but particularly in the US, for more than 30 years and is a proven process. BP has experience with a number of these projects in the US.
